The Playford, a member of the MGallery Collection, is a boutique AAA accredited 5 star hotel in the heart of Adelaide which offers the perfect blend of classical style and contemporary luxury. We are an organic and continually evolving Art Nouveau property with an eclectic feel, individually-appointed rooms and award-winning cuisine. On show are the unique and wonderful talents of South Australian artists such as Jeremy Herbert, David Bromley, Gray Hawke, Ashley Manley, Julie Strawinsky and Chris O’Brien to name just a few. As with each MGallery hotel which is inspired by a story, ancient or contemporary, all visitors are invited to experience this story through their stay and we look forward to sharing some of our unique touches with you.
Once home to Rupert Murdoch and his Adelaide newspaper ‘The News’, the original building was demolished in 1997 with the vision of rebuilding a hotel that would compliment the surrounding streetscape and which would become Australia’s first genuine Art’s hotel. Today the hotel stands on one of Adelaide’s most beautiful and cultural tree-lined boulevards within walking distance to major tourist attractions including the redeveloped Adelaide Oval, shopping precincts, restaurants, Adelaide Convention Centre, the new Royal Adelaide Hospital and educational institutions.
